Best podcasts for feeling better about your body

Podcasts can sometimes be therapy in your pocket

I adore podcasts. I listen when driving, walking, or doing chores around the house. When I first started learning about a weight inclusive, non-diet, Health at Every Size® (HAES) approach to health care, podcasts were the fastest way for me to absorb the new learning - especially the new language.

Building a calmer, more self-compassionate relationship with our bodies is like learning a new language. We need to hear the words spoken many times before they start to become part of our natural vocabulary. I believe this is where podcasts provide something a little different than books, they help to create a shift in our thoughts and feelings via auditory language. When we start to speak differently about food, exercise, and bodies it can have a powerful impact for ourselves but also for those in our lives.

Recommended Free Podcasts for improved body image:

Life. Unrestricted

Hosted by the dynamic Meret Boxler who has experience as a radio DJ, this podcast features guests who are key activists and professionals in the non-diet, HAES space. Meret has a natural talent for interviewing, asking the questions that we’re burning to hear. She is bravely authentic about her own eating disorder experiences, and takes us on her journey towards recovery.

Although Life.Unrestricted is on a little hiatus there are 74 episodes you can explore.

All fired up

Host psychologist Louise Adams has more than 20 years experience treating clients with eating disorders and body image distress. Each episode of All Fired Up is a wonderful rant about diet culture. Louise’s guests bring along a topic that’s really making them mad, and then they go on to rip it up. It’s incredibly empowering to listen to. I was interviewed for the episode titled Toxic Gym Culture where we get fired up about how unsafe and exclusionary gyms have become.

Fearless rebelle radio with summer innanen

This was one of the first non-diet podcasts I listened to. Summer Innanen has a huge following on social media and it’s easy to understand why. Fearless Rebelle Radio is all about empowering you to break free of diet rules and body shame, by covering topics such as self-esteem, size acceptance, body image, feminism, and eating disorders. Currently Summer is on maternity leave so the podcast is revisiting the best episodes, with super amazing guests. For this reason I recommend you start with the most recent episodes!

Food psych

The host Christy Harrison is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and a Certified Intuitive Eating counsellor. The episodes discuss improving your relationship with food and your body. The podcast is designed to offer safe and non-triggering support for listeners in recovery from eating disorders, weight stigma, and body shame. Last I checked there were over 174 episodes, so there’s plenty of gold for you to catch up on. This podcast is hugely popular with many dietitians I know.
